Investment Game

Investment Game is a real-time stock market simulation which allows players to manage up to three portfolios worth 100 000 EUR each by making virtual investments on 6 stock exchanges: Latvia , Lithuania , Estonia , Russia , Sweden , and Finland . After a simple free registration, the participant can trade securities online, with the quotes taken directly from the Reuters database. The prices and order status are updated every 5 minutes. The game also provides basic trading tips and weekly market overviews to help players with no previous investing experience.

Participants from all over the world compete for prizes awarded for the best performing portfolio. The event is organized by the Investment Fund, a student organization of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga , with the help of Hansabanka.

Goals of the Game

1. To provide an opportunity to get a hands-on approach to stock trading without taking

any tangible risk.

2. To encourage young people’s interest in finance and economics and provide them with

practical experience in the field.

History

The history of SSE Riga's Investment Game dates back to 1997. Since the very foundation of the event, the organizers tried to attract a larger number of supporters and promote the game in the Baltic region and outside its borders. The successful start has been followed by one or two rounds of Investment Game held annually, each of them lasting for approximately 3 months. Since the start of the game the number of participants has been growing every year and reached 6000 in the 2006/2007 season. The game expanded from the Baltic market and became known not only in the rest of the Europe, but also in North America .

Continuous improvements of Investment Game followed year after year making the game more beneficial and attractive for the players. The result was improved user interface, expanded selection of markets, stable and error-free operation of the game. Still many changes are on the way as 10 years of experience enable organizers to see the improvements needed. The first participants of Investment Game were students from Baltic universities. However, the successful concept of the game attracted a much wider audience which was interested in practical investing knowledge, starting with high school students and ending with professional traders.

The SSE Riga Investment Fund

The mission of the Investment Fund is to create opportunities for in-depth finance education beyond the university's regular curriculum through the application of knowledge to practice.

The organization achieves this in a variety of ways:

- Organizes Investment Game, an international interactive online stock market simulation.

- Trades and manages the portfolio of stocks quoted on the Riga , Vilnius and Tallinn Stock Exchanges.

- Awards scholarships to the best performing SSE Riga students.

- Arranges guest lectures and seminars for SSE Riga students on relevant topics in economics and finance.
