HEX (Helsinki) Market Overviews

The Helsinki Stock Exchange (HEX) 06/11/2006 – 10/11/2006

This week was active one with the total turnover in value 5.350.785.824 EUR. Price indices of Helsinki Stock Exchange rose quite significantly as OMX Helsinki index increased from 9169,89 to 9253,05, which is quite impressive for the market. Meanwhile OMX Helsinki 25 index rose by approximately 39 points.

One of this week’s top performers in Helsinki Stock Exchange is Benefon S (BNFSV) whose share prices went up by 30,43% this week. The company operates in Communications equipment sector and concentrates on wireless and GPS technology. Such an increase is particularly due to new main product shipments into European and Australian markets. The share prices should continue to rise because its new product was introduced after a long period of time. Even though the numbers on next week’s interim report should not be very promising, because the share prices began to rise only the last week, it is strongly advisable to bear in mind the fact of new product being shipped worldwide.

Another one of this week’s top performers is Sampo A (SAMAS) whose share prices rose by 12,48%. This week the company announced its results for January – September 2006. Sampo Group’s profit before taxes in this period exceeded one billion euros and amounted to EUR 1,019 million, earnings per share rose to EUR 1.31(1.29). On Thursday trading of company’s shares was suspended for 1 hour and then during a press conference it was announced that Sampo plc signed an agreement to sell all Sampo Bank plc’s shares to Danske Bank A/S. Sampo Group will book a sales gain of approximately EUR 2.9 billion from the transaction which will increase the group’s equity capital from EUR 4.6 billion to EUR 7.5 billion.

This week OKO Pankki Oyj (OKOAS) shares decreased by 2,62%, the reason of the decrease might be Interim report for January-September. The results were promising, earnings before taxes increased by 32%. However decrease in the return on equity can be observed in the report. The company shares had big turnover during the week; however it decreased on Monday, while slight and steady recovery during the rest of the week did not helped the shares to get out of the bottom of the performers.
