VSE (Vilnius) Market Overviews

Lithuanian Stock Market Overview 05/02/2007 - 09/02/2007

This week Lithuanian Stock Market was more active than the previous week with grand total turnover being 35,873,678.223 EUR instead of 32,414,585.09 EUR and the number of deals totaling respectively 7390 and 6470. The OMX Vilnius declined by 0.69% from 527.25 to 523.61. “TEO LT” (TEO1L) increased in stock value by 2.35%, from 0.85 EUR, to 0.87 EUR and had the second biggest turnover in the whole market. “Ūkio bankas“ (UKB1L) showed the biggest market’s turnover even though share’s value decreased by 1.47%. „Rokiškio Sūris“ (RSU1L) was not that popular but increased in shares value by 5.416%. “Snaigė“ (SNG1L) encountered one of the biggest price drops in the Main List, equal to 3.17%. Finally, “Dvarčionių keramika“ (DKR1L) was a leader in the I-List by its stock’s value change, which was 9.655%.

Leading telecommunications company in Lithuania “TEO LT” (TEO1L) again was very attractive for investors what can be seen from number of deals and total turnover, being 1,084 and 6,830,948.63 EUR respectively. Price rose by 2.35%, from the opening price of 0.85 EUR to final 0.87 EUR, what was the third best result in the Main List. One of the main factors which influenced popularity among investors and their trust, reflected in growing stock’s value, was company’s report about preliminary results of 2006. According to the announcement the revenue for the year 2006 was up by 0.7%, while profit increased by 55.3%, in comparison with 2005. If to look from the future’s perspective one should not expect dramatic increase in stock’s value, but on the other hand, since there are no serious negative factors influencing the company, price has some reasonable space for growing.

One of the biggest commercial banks in Lithuania “Ūkio bankas“ (UKB1L) this week was the most popular among investors what was reflected in the biggest number of deals in the Main List equal to 2,045, and the turnover of 7,750,057.64 EUR, what was 27.83% of the total weeks turnover in the Main List. Stock price dropped by 1.47%, from 1.36 EUR to 1.34 EUR, the biggest suggested price per week being 1.44 EUR and the lowest 1.26 EUR. No major announcements or news about the company were published, and since the price is steadily growing for the last half a year, one should buy this stock if they are seeking for less risky long term investment.

The fastest growing stock value in the I-List “Dvarčionių keramika“ (DKR1L) rose by 9.655%, from the opening price of 1.45 EUR to 1.59 EUR, biggest suggested being 1.69 EUR and lowest 1.43 EUR. Number of deals was second biggest in I-List, equal to 283, but the total week’s turnover was only 469,417.49 EUR, so one could say that small investments dominated. Again no major company related events happened, so it is very likely that the significant increase in price was more driven by speculative forces than by rational decisions. It is very hard to predict the future changes of this stock but as a short-term and high-risk investment it might pay of in the nearest future.
