VSE (Vilnius) Market Overviews

Lithuanian Stock Market Overview 13/11/2006 – 17/11/2006

This week companies in Vilnius Stock market have shown positive results as the rate of rises and falls in stock values was 22/14. Therefore, Vilnius OMX index increased by 2,82%. The overall turnover was 6.773.344,66 EUR which is 1.511.171,99 EUR less than in previous week. In addition, the amount of deals was also lower – only 3.282 (while last week there was 3.697). Mainly it is because of the fact that Vilnius Stock market was suspended on Friday due to technical fault in communication line between Vilnius and Stockholm. This week the biggest growth in stock value (+3,06%) in Baltic Main List of Lithuanian companies was shown by Ūkio Bankas (UKB1L). What is more, Sanitas (SAN1L) experienced the greatest decrease in stock value by 3,45%. The leader in turnover was TEO LT (TEO1L) with 2.852.089,15 EUR weekly turnover. Furthermore, Lietuvos Energija (LEN1L) and Gubernija (GUB1L) were noticed with the highest stock values in Baltic I-List – 15,32% and 15,00% respectively.

Sanitas (SAN1L), the oldest and the largest pharmaceutical company in Lithuania, experienced a noticeable fall in share price by 3,45%. The stock value was still influenced by previous week incident in daughter company “Jelfa” in Poland when, due to the detection of another medicine in the preparation “Corhydron 250”, the company was stopped. This week the inspection of pharmacy in Poland partly allowed “Jelfa” to resume the production. Thus, the stock value has increased and it is expected that it will go up next week. Nevertheless, according to the fact that Sanitas haven’t fulfilled their expectation (the company planned to have sales revenues of 64 million euro, but for the previous 10 months the sales revenue was only 34 million euro) and fact that the stoppage of “Jelfa” caused a huge loss, the stock value should decrease in long-run.

For Ūkio Bankas (UKB1L) previous week turned up to be quite successful as the stock value grew by 3,06%. The bank sector is still popular and low-priced in Lithuania. Moreover, it is expected that banks will show positive results and next year. Thus, the demand for shares Ukio Bankas should increase in the long term and this will lead to growth in the stock value.

Lietuvos Energija (LEN1L) distinguished itself with biggest increase in shares price by 15,32%. Actually it was caused by announcement in the newspaper “Verslo zinios” that Lietuvos Energija is going to participate in building the new nuclear power station and reappraise its capital. Lietuvos Energija owns water-power plant “Kruonis” in Kaunas whose real value is about 579,2 million euro. But in financial documents it is computed at only 115,8 million euro. Thus, if Lietuvos Energija makes reevaluation, it will increase it’s value of capital to 1,3 billion euro. According to this fact and results which have been already reached (after 9 months the company earned 2,7 times bigger net profit (€9,12m) than in the same period in 2005), it is expected that the stock value will remain high next week and could increase in the long-run.
