Latvian Stock Market Overview 05/02/2007 – 09/02/2007
 
This week was more active than the previous one showing four increases and two decreases in Baltic Main List and four increases and one decrease in Baltic I-List. The overall amount of deals during this week was 963 in comparison with 519 deals a week before. The turnover of Baltic Main List decreased by 716944.79 EUR and was 2,112,001.77 EUR whereas the turnover of Baltic I-List increased by 163% showed the value of 465,491.53 EUR. The most successful company during this week was Grindeks (GRD1R) whereas the loser of the week was SAF Tehnika (SAF1R) experiencing the decrease in value of shares by 7.2 %. What is more, both SAF Tehnika and Grindeks publicized 6 and 12 months financial reports respectively, causing significant changes in their shares values.
 
JSC Grindeks (GRD1R), leading pharmaceutical company in Latvia, experienced the biggest rise in share value by 7.8 % during this week. The value of share was constantly growing till Thursday when it reached the level of 9.05 EUR. On Friday there was seen a small decrease and the share price leveled off at 8.84 EUR Apart from the publication of 12 month financial report, JSC Grindeks announced in newspaper “Dienas Bizness” on February 7, 2007 about the possibility of new shares emission. The management of the company informs that taking into account the fast development and tremendous investment plans of the company, additional shares emission could be reviewed as one of the possible options for attracting extra funds. Due to this, the share value of JSC Grindeks is expected to grow in the future.
 
JSC Latvijas kuģniecība (LSC1R) (Latvian Shipping Company – LASCO) was also among eight gainers of this week. The value of share of this company increased a little and now possesses the level of 1.18 EUR. On 10 February 2007 JSC Latvijas kuģniecība informed, that a festive launching and naming ceremony of m/v Ugale (the fifth of ten tankers ordered by LASCO) took place in Croatia. Immediately upon the launching, the keel will be laid for the next sixth Latvijas kuģniecība products m/v Usma. At present JSC Latvijas kuģniecība fleet comprises 38 vessels, including 30 product tankers, 5 reefer vessels, 2 LPG carriers and 1 Ro-Ro/general type vessel, as well as three tankers. As this information was presented only on Saturday, it could not impact on the value of share of the company during the week. As a result, the shareholders should wait positive changes in share price in the nearest future.
