There were no big changes in Riga market during this week, except the decrease in Baltic Main list turnover of 24.3% from 529,614.44 EUR to 400,830.27 EUR. The whole market turnover was affected by this decrease, experiencing a reduction for 22.3 % in comparison with previous week. Index of BALTIX showed an increase by 1.81% while OMXR index has risen by 0.57%. Grndeks (GRD1R) was the firm that experienced the biggest stock price change by +1.8% having turnover of 8,917.91EUR. The loser of the week was Latvijas Balzams (BAL1R), whose stock decreased by -2.3% from 6.10 EUR to 5.96 EUR with a turnover of 8,387.83 EUR. Overall, this week ended up with prevailing amount of gainers: there were 5 rises, 1 falls in the Baltic Main List and 2 rises, 1 fall and 2 unchanged position in the Baltic I-List.
Ventspils Nafta (VNF1R) performed this week better than it had done the week before when it lost its leading position. Ventspils Nafta experienced an increase in stock price by 0.04 EUR with an increase in turnover from 61,654.60 EUR to 160,889.84 EUR and amount of deals 39. The reason for the increase was the certification received on 1 March 2007, stating that Ventspils nafta termināls Ltd, a subsidiary of JSC Ventspils nafta, was awarded the latest certifications in compliance with the requirements of the Quality Management Standard and the Environmental Management Standard. The certification that the terminal meets the abovementioned standards was issued by the international organization for certification Bureau Veritas Certification. To clear up, Ventspils nafta termināls Ltd is the largest of such companies in the region. Its crude oil and petroleum product shore-tank farm reaches 1.2 million cubic meters, and it has no analogues among similar companies in the nearest countries. The uniqueness as well as Ventspils Nafta gained honor make the owners and the shareholders of the company be safe and confident in the investments they made.
Grindeks (GRD1R) was one of the firms ended up the week with positive changes in stock price. It experienced an increase from 11.17 EUR to 11.24 EUR, with 14 deals. Leading pharmaceutical company in the Baltic States Grindeks has been admitted to Latvia Biotechnology Association.(LBA) in february. Membership at the Association gives opportunity to the company to follow all the current events of the field, to take part in promotion and development of the industry as well as find ideas for perspective projects in biotechnologies. By focusing to biotechnology, Grindeks testifies its readiness to provide a sustainable development of science, research and technologies. Company can boast of strong scientific potential - high rang professionals, who are working with synthetic medicines, and by acquiring new knowledge and methods, could successfully form industrial technologies in the field of biotechnologies in future. These news caused the price of Grindeks to rise. Moreover, the prospective in biotechnology field that the company was said to have, will make its position in Baltic market stronger and bring shareholders financial benefits.
