SSE (Stockholm) Market Overviews

Stockholm Stock Market Overview (OMX) 5/03/2007 – 9/03/2007

As the share price behavior in the previous week was fully dictated by the world crisis on Chinese and Japanese stock markets, which influenced stock markets throughout the world, this week was more like a recovery from that. During week 10 OMX Stockholm 30 Index (OMXS30) has rocketed by 2.53% and OMX Stockholm Benchmark (OMXSB) by 2.43%. In this review we will analyze three companies Scania B (SCV B), Skanska B (SKA B) and Autoliv SDB (ALIV SDB). Although changes in their share prices were not the most significant on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, they, on the contrary to other companies, supported overall share price rise due to world market stabilization with their own economic activities.

Share prices of Scania B (SKA B) closed higher in the end of week 10, namely €57.37 per share and 2.89% increase during the week, led by news from Scania B as Volkswagen AD has increased its stake to 35% in Swedish truck maker. Volkswagen clarified that the acquisition should secure companies strategic interests in the truck market. However, being already the biggest shareholder in Scania B, Volkswagen AD news only boosted hopes and rumors about sooner MAN, Scania B German rival, merger with Swedish truck maker, which actually had direct effect on Scania B share price. Nevertheless the merger between two European truck giants is very notable event in the market; the effect of VW stake increase might not be very protracted.

As it was already mentioned, Autoliv SDB (ALIV SDB) didn’t have the highest rise during week 10, that had +3,10% to its last week share price, its economic activities makes investors keep this company in attention. On 9/03/07 Autoliv SDB reported its interest in new investment, this time in Romania. The company intends to expand production capacity by building two production units for safety belts, airbags and car cablings. It has already bought 10 hectares of land in Lugoj. Two new facilities will be ready already till October’07 and will cost €30 million. This news should make the share prices go up during next week.

Skanska B (SKA B) +3.97% jump this week with closing price of €16.17 could be explained with only one successful companies operation, viz selling its newly built retail property in Stockholm. Despite the fact that the building is not finished yet that will be done by summer’07, Skanska B, one of the world’s leading construction groups, made a deal with €6.88 million (SEK 60 million) gain, which will be included in Quarter 1 2007 report. This fact surely increases investors’ interest in Skanska B shares, thus, would positively affect its behavior in the nearest future.
