SSE (Stockholm) Market OverviewsStockholm Stock Market Overview (OMX) 22/01/2007 – 26/01/2007
During the week 4 OMX Stockholm 30 (OMXS30) index has decreased by 0.21%, which says that there were more companies that have lost their previous positions comparing with the previous week. However, we will consider 2 major week winners H&M Hennes & Mauritz B (HM B) and Nokia SDB (Noki SDB) and come up with explanation of their success. At the end of the overview we will draw attention to the week looser – AstraZeneca (AZN).
The latest events in H&M Hennes & Mauritz B (HM B) company have affected the share price on the Stockholm Stock Market very seriously. In the week time the share prices of H&M Hennes & Mauritz B (HM B) has had the most dramatic rise – it rocketed by 7,46% (from €37,56 to €40,36). There should be no surprise that after a quite long stable period on the 25th of January both the share price increased notably and the selling volume even doubled considering the fact that on 25/01/07 H&M Hennes & Mauritz B (HM B) has published its Quarter 4 report. It has shown the values of profit after financing items and gross margins, which are 10.12% higher than expected by the most part of analytics. Most probably the share prices of the company will still be under the effect of the Q4 report in the week 5.
Similarly to the previous company Nokia SDB (Noki SDB) has had noticeable increase in their share prices during the week 4. The starting price on Monday (22/01) was €15.52 and it ended the week with increase of 7,22%, namely the closing price was €16,64. The beginning of January is the time, when most of the companies publish their last year Q4 profit reports, which influence the share prices of their companies. The same situation happened with Nokia SDB (Noki SDB) this week, which made public the information about their profits. Even Nokia SDB (Noki SDB) CEO said that despite price pressure they had profit jump of 19% (about one billion) in the full-year 2006 and in its 4th Quarter has beaten all the expectations. That’s the most evident fact that could explain the jump in the share prices during week 4 and might keep increasing in the future as well.
The gradual increase in the share prices of AstraZeneca (AZN) in the week 2 didn’t long even less than a week, when it reached it’s top price of €44.5 per share. Starting from Friday (20/01/07) the share price started to decrease much faster than it had grown up. There are several reasons for that kind of behavior. Firstly, the biggest part of European analytics companies predicts cautions for AstraZeneca (AZN) after strong 2006. It is called out by introducing a cheap, copycat heart drug in the USA. Secondly, on the 23rd of January AstraZeneca (AZN) – the Europe’s third-biggest maker of prescription medicines – has invested 0 million in the new research, acquiring new fixed assets and employing about 100 new employees, which might not be very pleasing for the shareholders. The result of that might be continuing decrease in the share prices during the next week.
