Week 18 was exceptional not only because investors were able to trade only 3 days due to technical difficulties, but also because the RTS Index dropped severely by 6.02%. The week started with the index jumping by 1% in the morning, however, since then the trend was clearly downwards and Wednesday ended with RTS index being down by 1.57%. Thursday was relatively calm and no drastic drops in stock prices were present. The day ended with negative growth of 2.42%. Unfortunately for stock owners, Friday was marked by a massive drop in stock prices and when the trading day finished, investors could see an enormous weekly drop in RTS Index of 6.02%. Such a massive drop could be explained by much negative economic news all around the World. However, the index was mostly affected by news and events in Russia itself. This week the German XETRA DAX index has experienced a decrease of -3.53% during the week and closed with a value of 6,561.47 points. After two weeks of increase, this week cut the growth streak for DAX INDEX. Top 3 gainers of the week were: Fresenius SE & Co KGaA (+4.32%), adidas AG (+3.14%) and Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co KGaA (+1.22%). During 18th week FTSE 100 index experienced quite significant fluctuations around 5,760, when on May 4th the index fell for 111 points (1.93%), on market close reaching 5,655 points. But throughout the 18th week the index declined for 2.29%.One reason for this notable decrease was initiated by decline in oil and metal prices. Trading week 18 has started on April, 30. It was rather short consisting of only 4 working days. From the graph below you can see that CAC 40 index has moderately decreased in weight on Monday. However, after the holiday it has opened at the starting value which was much higher than the closing one at the end of Monday. During Wednesday the index has lost almost the same number of points as it has gained via increasing the starting value on Wednesday. Very similar situation happened on Thursday: the index has been falling, but at the end of the day its closing price appeared to be the same as the one for the previous day. However, Friday’s trade in the stock exchange determined negative development of the index’s value. During that day CAC 40 has fallen down very seriously from 3224 to 3163 points. Overall, the index has fallen by 1.58%, which meant that the moderate fluctuations during first 3 days have been outweighed by the fall on the last one. Week 18 ended up with +1.59% for OMX Baltic Benchmark GI (OMXBBGI) index: opening value of 483.46 increased by 7.68 points and on Friday the market closed at the level of 491.14 points. Out of three Baltic countries, this week’s advancer is Estonia: slightly overachieved the Baltic market overall, OMX Tallinn (OMXT) showed 1.76% growth (622.18 points at the beginning of the week and 633.15 at the end). Trading week 17 has started on April, 23. From the graph below you can see that CAC 40 index has moderately decreased in price on Monday. However, on Tuesday it has experience a dramatic increase which in the end turned to be the turning point of the whole week. After this the index’s value used to fluctuate seriously, but finally it was closed Thursday at almost the same level as it was opened on Wednesday. Furthermore, at the beginning of Friday CAC 40 opened the trade with starting price has fallen dramatically from 3222 points to 3178 points. Nevertheless, during the last day of trade investors were active and the index value has gone up. Overall, CAC 40 has risen by 3.87%, meaning that the rise on the first days of the trading week outweighed the fall on the last ones. 17th week in FTSE 100 started with the lowest fall during the week and ended with the highest point with general increase 0.49 %. The index opened at the price 5772 and closed at the price 5777. As you can see from Chart 1 it looks like a Price Channel. It consists of two parallel lines which generally go up. The trends line makes a basic and we can see how the prices are going up, the lower channel line mostly doesn’t let the price to get lower or above it. However, RSI index shows us that it went up and is approximately 80, it means that we can consider ourselves in the overbought zone, which suggests us to sell the stock as fast as possible. Stochastic index supports this theory. Its index is approximately the same and is almost on the peak of it. The overall trend of OMX Baltic Benchmark GI (OMXBBGI) during week 17 was slightly negative: the index lost 1.92 points (0.4%), and finished the week on the level of 483.46 points in comparison to the opening 485.38 level. The highest value of the index could be observed on Monday, April 23. Out of three Baltic countries, the best market performance was shown by OMX Vilnius, which is reflected in 0.67% growth of OMX Vilnius (OMXV) index: starting value of 323.77 points and the closing level of 325.95 points. Downside was influenced by dissolution of the Dutch government and very strong result for French socialist candidate François Hollande in the first round of the presidentail voting. Week 17 was very unpredictable and volatile; however, the trend was clear from the beginning of the week – downwards. The week started with RTS index plummeting and reaching Monday’s bottom of -2.52% growth. Since then index started to change direction and rebounded somewhat by 1%, but plummeted again on Tuesday and reached the bottom of the week so far. Since then up until beginning of Thursday the index was recovering, but then it sank again and Friday started with RTS index hitting week’s low of -3.10% growth.
